ICUFR doesn’t do projects the way Clubs and Districts do. Our communication abilities do and have allowed us to supply and transmit information to assist in projects:  both about using computers and the internet; and how to assist in events and catastrophes. Some of our achievements are listed here.

Club Service

  • Provide technical advice to dozens of Member Rotarians and Clubs on computer and website related topics.
  • Regular newsletters
  • Maintain a website for current and archived news

Community Service

- Supported fellow Rotarians who lost their homes in southern California forest fires. Members donated $3,150 divided among 10 Rotarians

International Service

  • - Assisted members to channel thousands of Club dollars to specific charities.
  • - Supported the Foundation by awarding Paul Harris Fellowships to several ICUFR members who demonstrated “Service Above Self” through our Fellowship.
  • - Donated several thousand dollars to the Rotary Foundation by awarding PHF’s to ICUFR members who donated “Service Above Self” to our Fellowship, far above the call to duty.
  • - ICUFR and several members donated, in honor of Grace “Grannie” Guderjahn, Past ICUFR Chairperson, to the “Thousand Smiles” organization, which does free face reconstructive surgery in Mexico. Click for more information
  • Acted as a communications channel, linking project organizers with potential helpers & supporters.
  • Collected money to aid survivors of the bombing in Oklahoma City, economically disadvantaged areas of the former Soviet Union, and medically needy villages in Papua, New Guinea
  • Participated in collecting and shipping shoes to a club in the UK for distribution to children in Lithuania
  • Collected and shipped books to the Philippines
  • Collected hearing aids for a project of a club in MA
  • Provided housing for a group of Welsh Rotarian motorcyclists traveling in the US
  • Helped arrange GSE matches
  • Helped form "sister club" relationships

International Service - Natural Disasters

  • - Mobilized aid to assist victims of the earthquake in Kobe, Japan
  • - Responded to appeals for disaster relief after the earthquake in the Southern California earthquake. Most telephones didn’t work, but the internet allowed us to communicate.
  • - Acted as a 'clearing house' for Tsunami aid, channeling aid direct to those Rotarians and others who delivered it to the disaster locations.
  • - Assisted in sending aid in the form of money, clothing, food and other supplies to flood-stricken areas of Mexico and Georgia (USA)

Vocational Support

The Rotary Club of National City, California, created a Memorial Scholarship, in memory of founder member and Past ICUFR Chairman Al Dixon. The Scholarship is administered by the National City Rotary Club in San Diego, and ICUFR and several individual members contributed to this Scholarship. Click for more informastion

  • Encouraged international student exchanges, with financial and practical support.
