A retired Master Printer, married to Sue and with four daughters, all postgraduate, I joined Rotary in 1985, dropped out for a couple of years due to pressure of work and rejoined at the neighbouring Club of Guisborough & Great Ayton in 1995.
At Guisborough, I have chaired the Community Service, International and Foundation and Vocational committees.
Currently, I lead the team that produces a directory of all the voluntary and charitable organisations in the town, plus a heap of local information. I also lead the team that manages the annual Town Fair, a major event that attracts thousands of visitors and benefits many of the town's voluntary and charitable groups. To fill in any spare moments, I produce the Club Year Book & Directory, look after our little website and serve as the Press Officer.
For fifteen years I served on the management committee of the Town Twinning Association until I retired in spring 2006. This was very rewarding work, developing the links between families, schools and local clubs. I even found time to learn the German language.
Nowadays, my leisure time is split between my Rotary activities and serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the nearby 17th century almshouses. As part of my support for the Almshouses, I run classical concerts in the chapel, presenting artists of international standing that draw audiences from across the region.
